Judith Zabar Opens At Cocco & Salem Gallery On Wednesday, March 10th
By: Conch Color
Anyone who has ever really visited New York City is familiar with Zabars, the premier coffee emporium, which also features the freshest bagels and deli treats. Now meet Judith Zabar. Fifteen years ago she and her husband, Stanley, looked all over Florida for the perfect get away home. Finally, thirteen years ago, they found it in Sugarloaf.
Until recently, their Keys friends knew the couple as avid theatre goers, as well as classical music lovers. But few knew that Judith was an artist herself, having studied with Mohammed Khalil at the Parsons School of Design, and that Judith has done shows in the city for 20 years. The past 8 years, she has studied with Roberta Marx and Jim Salem while in the Keys, who she considers her Florida mentors.
Judith’s paintings entail both her discipline of representaional, but even more so her love of the freedom of abstract. She finds her painting to be a relaxing pastime, and paints regularly. Judith is inspired by the vibrant colors in the Keys. She calls her latest collection, “Objects and Obsessions”, eminating from what she describes as her artists emotional involvement with her wrok. Ever eclectic, Judith expresses herself in many medium, especially monoprint, collage, and acrylics. From artistic doodling, to reality based efforts, her new show will offer 42 diverse creations. And obviously, there is amazing inspiration when Judith wakes up and smells the coffee. Zabar’s, that is.
Judith’s new showing will be at the new Coco & Salem Imagine Art Gallery at 1111 Duval Street, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM, on Wednesday, March 10th.
