Conch Color"s Chin Is Up

The past two weeks have been the toughest since I started the publication over four years ago. But as the eternal optimist, I must lead by example and not let it get to me. But due to a streak of bad luck, I am feeling a little beat up by the odds of so many things going wrong at one time. It all started with my computer, just and year old, crashing as a result of a frozen hard drive. My back- up external drive was broken. So basically everything was lost. The computer was still under warranty, but all that meant was that they gave me new drives and data-less computer. It’s like starting from scratch. But in a last ditch effort to save the day, my computer repairmen knew some NASA recovery experts who may, or may not, be able to save the day. But it will be expensive, to say the least. Ouch!

Then one of the secrets of being able to produce such a beautiful publication, in addition to a fabulous printer, is to maintain a minimal staff. This means there’s no back up help if something happens. Well, once again, this past two weeks was fateful. Both my assistant quit and our old town driver quit in the same week. This means that in addition to the 90 hours I usually put in every week, I had to deliver myself all the way up the Keys last week until 2 am in the morning. Then last week my account manager got the flu and this week her baby got it. Our corporate sales director got rear ended in her car, putting her out of work and finally, this week I came down with a bad case of food poisoning.

But the show must go on, so this week’s Conch Color will come out on time. I want to thank everyone for bearing with us. Hopefully our luck will change.
